Radiation continues...

Radiation continues… and so far it’s going well.

The music plays softly in the background as the machine moves strategically around me...

I lay as still as possible with my arms in an awkward position over my head, all while trying to breath normally... and as soon as you think about breathing normally, you don't! It still happens, but I'm learning how to calm myself down more quickly.

And since lying still means I can’t look at my watch, I’m guessing my zaps are about 15 seconds long… 3 different times from 3 different angles. It's what you do when there's nothing else to do... you count seconds.

Again, treatments are daily, except for weekends, holidays, and when the machine goes down. And yes, the latter happened this last week. It’s unfortunate as my ‘end date’ just changed, but I don't have a choice... that's the only way to get my 30 beams. Technology, even the million dollar machines sometimes have issues... but someone fixed it and we're back on track again. The CoH radiation team, like every other department I've been to is awesome!

Here's my machine... remember, I don't move, the machine comes forward and those two 'arms' on either side and the top part rotate around me, sometimes buzzing, and sometimes my table 'jolts' me into place. The TV on the ceiling shows the song title and artist of the music playing, but my head is positioned sideways so I can't see the screen. It's nice music, but I really am not familiar with the artists... especially having to guess who they are... I try to shift my eyes over as far as they can go to see it, but it's not happening. The only artist I recall was the Bee Gees! lol

All my recovery stats are the same as my last post, except for port removal… no more restrictions! YAY!! I'm still experiencing pain and numbness, but as the quote says...

Will it be easy? Nope! Will it be worth it? Absolutely!

I meet with my OT this week to review how my arm is doing from the ‘cording’. I still have some limitation and pain there, but it’s way better than it used to be. There was a time I was wondering if I’d ever be able to raise my arm up again so I'm thrilled that it's getting better!

I love all my friends… and I truly do mean that!

Last but not least whatsoever… thank you doesn’t even come close to the 4-hr ft call today with my bffhs (best friend from high school)! LC, I loved catching up and can’t wait until the next time. It’s crazy to think how much time has passed, all we've been through... but we can just pick up where we left off like it was last week. Love you my friend!

Work is good!

With the two recent holidays, it's crazy, but I haven’t worked a full week since I’ve returned! And you're wondering 2??? Well because Juneteenth was a last minute add-on, we weren’t able to take it until July.

Summer break is always quieter in the office for us, but it’s also a busy time… lots of new students enrolling and lots of summer tasks, prepping for the new school year.

The best news is that students will return in-person, full-time… and for that, we’re all excited.

But being back with my peeps, in-person is awesome!! What a great team I work with, and we work for the best leader ever! On a personal note, I've definitely just had to adjust my attire... my at-home attire for the past year+ was much more casual! LOL
