Chemo Day 6

Last week was a another pretty status quo week again… in all aspects. So in these crazy times, that’s a win in my book!

Of significance last week, was World Cancer Day! We all know someone affected by this horrible disease. It has no favorites either… it doesn’t care whether you’re young or old, rich or poor, mean or nice. It’s just a horrible nasty disease that needs to be eradicated… the sooner the better! When reading the numbers, it’s truly mind-boggling. Not to bring you down, but these are the facts… “In California, more than 140,000 people will be diagnosed this year with some form of cancer, not including the common skin cancers. This is equivalent to more than 16 new cases every hour of every day.”

M I N D B O G G L I N G!!!

Please do your part to stay healthy, pro-active, and aware. Please!

The theme for WCD, “I Am and I Will” When we choose to come together, we can achieve what we all wish for: a healthier, brighter world without cancer.

So I experienced a little more pain in the ole fingertips this past week, which caused a bit more frustration mainly because it became a little harder for some basic tasks. So for now I will have to rely scissors, bottle openers, and whatever tool I can find to get the job done… oh and of course there’s always the last resort, asking for help. Something I’m not really used to doing. Everything else is going okay, and still minor, like my head gets cold without a beanie… I can’t eat or drink too fast… making sure I’m keeping up with meds and water and food, oh my! I am pretty happy with my latest lab results though… not sure if this new chemo drug is the cause, or my new kale smoothie might be the reason, or maybe my Kokkinisto meal from the Friday Night Greek Night… but my platelet count more than doubled from the previous week and I’m super excited about that.

Cheers to Kale!!!

As you can see, I did get some amazing gifts this week…

~ An amazing basket full of thoughtfulness from our Del Sur School staff… Del Sur Dragons Rock! (and since it’s my husband’s alma mater, he totally agrees about the 'DS Rocks' comment!)

~ Scrumptions cupcakes from my dear friend BL

~ A beautiful new slouchy beanie from my mom… she’s a knittin’ machine

~ A cool new beanie, awesome bath salts, and the ever-so-necessary lip balm, and the sweetest hand made dish towel from my favorite niece in Maine (all my nieces are my favorites... they're just located in different cities across the US right now)

~ Beautiful red roses and gourmet chocolates from our dear friends J&J who couldn’t come to our annual superbowl party. We had to party without them…. and they had to party without us.

~ And just when you think blankets could get any softer… guess again. Lovin’ my new super soft blanket with inspirational sayings from my bff from high school, LC!! It came just in time for our mini superbowl party! lov u L <3

Yay TB... since the Broncos or Bills didn't get to the superbowl this year, I had to go with the Bucs... TB12 was my QB in my fantasy league where I took 1st place! He is the GOAT afterall!

Chemo Day #6

Today was Day 2 of this new drug, Paclitaxel, more commonly known as Taxol.

I started the day working since my appt was early afternoon… always best to stay busy. And since it was the "2nd" Taxol infusion, they infuse slowly… 10 minute infusion… check on me… if all is good, go another 10 minutes… check on me… if all is good, go the duration! Luckily all was good both rounds and all is still good! Whew!!

I came home from my appt and promptly went back to work to finish up the day! They say side effects can build from week to week, so we will just have to see how it goes… one day at a time! Based on my recent lab results, I will continue my keto shakes and platelet-raising foods. In addition, I’ll be adding more protein-rich foods since my proteins dropped a tiny little bit ~ I’ve already got my protein-rich-food list ready to go for my Insta-Cart shopper tomorrow!

Those of you who check in regularly… thank you… thank you… thank you… you know who you are <3 and I love hearing from you!

To you all… stay safe, stay healthy, and have a great week!

Next treatment… Feb 15
